Homes had to be evacuated last night in Trion.  A truck carrying ammonia to Mount Vernon Mills was leaking.  The leak forced the evacuation of homes near the mill along 5th, 6th and 7th streets.  The City of Trion opened up the recreation center to anyone that was displaced by the leak.  The First Baptist Church in Trion was also made available for those needing a place to go.  A hazmat truck was brought in to help contain the leak.  Officers spent much of last night diverting traffic away from the area near the mill.

If you have seen drones flying overhead recently don’t worry.  North Georgia EMC is using drones to inspected overhead lines, equipment and right of way areas in Chattsworth, Rock Spring and LaFayette.

The Freedom Festival kicks off tomorrow evening in LaFayette.  The event is held at the Ross Abney Complex on 1st street.  Festivities get underway at 5pm with kids games, vendors and a cornhole tournament.  Live music starts and 6pm.  Fireworks cap off the night, starting around 10pm.

The City of Dalton is warning of a letter going around to residents asking them for money in exchange for having their names placed on a petition regarding false claims that the police department will be defunded.  The City of Dalton and the Dalton Police Department says they are not affiliated with the organization that is sending letters.  The City of Dalton says they are not considering any policy of “defunding” or eliminating the Dalton Police Department.
